Esther Jiskoot
Glass beads are a fantastic material; the glass draws the light in.

In her sculptures Esther Jiskoot (1963, The Netherlands) integrates divergent materials with glass beads, which she strings on long threads before crocheting or knitting them into various forms. These forms are skillfully interwoven with ceramics, casted aluminum or glass, amongst others. The organic character of her sculptures is reminiscent of the human or bestial anatomy, and lays bare a fragile and imperfect corporality. Titles are integral to Jiskoot’s work. They “form part of the sensory aspect thereof” she says and are the key to understanding them.
