Eric Giraudet de Boudemange
My greatest source of inspiration are hidden folkloric practices, everyday life, ecology, pop culture, politics, friends and enemies.
Eric Giraudet de Boudemange (1983, France) creates mixed media collages that reflect on cultural identity within a global context. His practice often begins with field research into folklore, which he uses as a gateway to explore economic and cultural power dynamics tied to specific places. His work weaves together references from pop culture, sociology, and personal narratives, resulting in a playful yet darkly humorous visual language that balances between the grotesque and the beautiful.
Giraudet de Boudemange’s artistic impulses are deeply rooted in his agricultural family background. Much of the artist’s work focuses on the relationship between the body and the landscape, asking questions such as: How do information, belief, and natural resources interact in a particular region? How do we relate to bodily and vegetal growth?
Over time, his work has grown more personal, blending ecological themes with his experience of fatherhood. His imagery often centres on the body in motion, its rhythms, its growth, its decay, forming spatial collages of organic shapes that flow, erupt, and sometimes fall apart.
