Charles Fréger

French photographer Charles Fréger (1975, France) takes portraits of groups ranging from majorettes, sumo wrestlers and soldiers to people dressed up for ancient traditional rituals. Fréger works all over the world. In his series, he focuses on how today's youth presents itself in a social context and identifies itself through clothing and ostentation. Charles Fréger is interested in stereotypes and the ways we consciously and unconsciously process them. His work expresses a consistent interest in the contexts of groups. In individual works of his, he will often set the communal off against subtle discrepancies that given members of the group use to express their individuality.
