Perhaps it is naive, but when I look at the world map I have no idea of its real size. How large something is escapes me completely because it is too abstract.

At the base of Annesas Appel's (1978, The Netherlands) work are everyday objects: objects of use, geographical maps, a laptop, a bookcase or clothing. She focuses her inquisitive gaze on those things which are a part of our daily routine, on the habituated, and extracts these from their familiar contexts. She analyzes objects or images, and subjects them to a system entirely her own, resulting in a new visual representation, a new and singular form.
