Jerry Zeniuk
For me, color is the most intense way to approach a space. […] Ultimately, there’s no distinction between the abstract and the concrete: it has to do with a visual principle, with tone. Such distinction as there is, is grounded in time: you have a different sense of time on the street than you do in a calm space that allows you to concentrate more deeply. Therein lies the difference between painting and street life.

Intuition and color are the key elements in Jerry Zeniuk’s (1945, Germany) paintings. As he believes the way colors interact reflects human relationships, so everything in his work revolves around the relationship between areas of differing colors, which are spread across an untreated canvas as individual elements. Using a broad brush, Zeniuk applies mostly primary colors, not overlaying one another, but juxtaposed, resulting in a rhythmically developed distribution of shapes and colors. Through his exploration of colors Zeniuk is firmly rooted in the tradition of oil painting.
