Femke Schaap

I consciously allow the image to shift a little, or stop the projection for a moment causing the objects to become visible. It changes the way you look at the projection.

Femke Schaap (1972, the Netherlands) makes video installations which combine space and the image by projecting footage onto polystyrene cut-outs. Her work reflects on societal tensions which become tangible through the relationships between the projected characters. Schaap’s tabletop video installations show how constructed realities imprint on our perception. Her large installations offer participation in an immersive filmic world. The viewer can literally participate in the work and experience the tension between the projections and the physical surroundings.
