Annemiek de Beer

The main motifs in the paintings of Annemiek de Beer (born 1971 in Bolsward, The Netherlands) are derived from nature, such as water lilies, ponds or cacti. These are motifs and images that allow the artist to abstract her work until it becomes a quest for rhythm, direction, refrains and structure.

De Beer builds up her paintings with several layers of quick-drying egg tempera, in some cases mixed with marble powder. This composition ensures that the underlying paint layers remain properly visible and that the tempera provides the whole with a degree of transparency and clarity.
