Anna Ruth

I am interested in creating images that feel familiar but slightly displaced.

Anna Ruth (1994, Czech Republic) creates paintings, sculptures, and sound works that explore personal mythology, memory, and humanity’s relationship with the natural world. Drawing on a wide range of cultural references, historical events, and mythological stories, she constructs layered visual worlds in which fact and fiction intertwine. Her works are populated by recurring symbols such as pearls, moths, insects, shells, and snails, which originate from personal memories but also connect to broader themes of vulnerability, transformation, and the ways people seek meaning and understanding.

Nature plays a central role in her practice, appearing as a powerful and often mysterious presence. Using natural pigments, iron oxides, and luminous layers of paint, she creates muted, earthy compositions that evoke growth, decay, and renewal. Moving fluidly between figuration and abstraction, Ruth builds atmospheric spaces that encourage reflection on humanity’s place within a larger natural and cultural landscape.
