Andy Warhol
People sometimes say that the way things happen in the movies is unreal, but actually, it's the way things happen to you in life that's unreal. The movies make emotions look strong and real, whereas when things really do happen to you, it's like you're watching television – you don't feel anything.
Andy Warhol via The Philosophy of Andy Warhol, 1975
In the fifty years since he first appeared on the New York art scene, Andy Warhol (1928-1987, United Sates) has become synonymous with Pop Art and with his statement "in the future everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes". His artistic career resulted in an extraordinarily prodigious oeuvre, gaining renown that will last for many years to come. One example would be his attainments in the field of printmaking, and in silkscreen printing especially; a field which he caused to be recognized as a fine art. Warhol made silkscreens of several subjects, ranging from ordinary mass products (Campbell soup cans) to celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and queen Beatrix.
