tempera on canvas
201 x 369 cm
With tempera, a paint roller and a huge expanse of canvas as his tools, Robert Zandvliet (1970, the Netherlands) gives new expression to the age-old genre of landscape painting and to the skies blanketing our world. For Zandvliet art is all about looking, about reducing an image to its essence and letting the expressiveness of the paint do its work. The result: an immersive image of snowflakes flurrying against a vast leaden sky, reduced by Zandvliet’s characteristically spare artistic vernacular to abstract strokes and patches of paint rendered in varying shades of white, blue and grey.
