Hamid El Kanbouhi (1976, Morocco) transforms everyday elements and experiences from his personal life into fantastic worlds consisting of drawings, paintings, performances and sculptures. Drawing is always the basis of El Kanbouhi's work. Whether he makes clay sculptures or a painting, the point of departure is always a sketch or drawing. Coincidence, playfulness and a constant search for unknown ways form the core of his method.
The collection of AkzoNobel holds several brightly colored ceramic sculptures by El Kanbouhi. The sculptures of modest size are executed in the colorful and imaginative style that is characteristic of El Kanbouhi.
Hamid El Kanbouhi studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, the Sandberg Institute and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam.
