Vytautas Kumža
The content of my work holds an obsessive looking for meaning.
Vytautas Kumža (1996, Czechia) creates photographs that transform ordinary objects and everyday situations into strange, carefully constructed scenes. By staging silent "conversations" between objects, he explores how meaning emerges through looking and how familiar things can take on unexpected significance. His work questions the logic of photography itself, reminding viewers that every photograph is a constructed image rather than a neutral record of reality.
Photography is central to Kumža's practice, but his images often originate as sculptural installations. Using found objects, glass, visual illusions, inverted colours, and exaggerated scales, he builds environments that are photographed while leaving traces of their making visible. Glass plays a double role here: it is transparent and invites you to look, yet at the same time keeps you at a distance. Seams, display structures, and transparent layers reveal the process behind the image, encouraging viewers to consider how perception is shaped by framing, context, and the act of looking itself.
