Susanne Khalil Yusef & WONNE

We don’t work together on a fixed basis. We each have our own routines, but we benefit a lot from each other’s input.

Susanne Khalil Yusef (1984, Germany) & WONNE (1996, the Netherlands) are an artistic collaboration that brings together two independent artistic practices.

Developed during the years they shared both a personal relationship and an artistic dialogue, their joint works explore shared authorship, solidarity, and resistance. Bringing together Yusef's exploration of her Palestinian heritage and WONNE's expressive ceramic sculptures and drawings, their collaborative works respond to the realities of oppression, both personal and political. In one series, four ceramic teapots portray prominent advocates for Palestinian rights and resistance to colonial violence, expressing the enduring hope for return and self-determination despite ongoing conflict.

Alongside their collaboration, both artists maintain independent practices. Susanne Khalil Yusef works across painting, textiles, ceramics, performance, video, sculpture, and archival research. Drawing on her Palestinian background and family history, she examines themes of identity, displacement, memory, and the meaning of home. WONNE works with ceramics, drawing, painting, and digital collage to create expressive, colourful works that explore vulnerability, belonging, and resilience. Using an intuitive visual language inspired by childhood, he transforms personal experiences into images that resonate with broader social questions.
