Pascale Marthine Tayou (1966, Cameroon) creates sculptures and installations from materials gathered during his travels, including wood, glass, textiles, plastic, beads, and everyday found objects. Seeing himself as a traveller rather than belonging to a single place, he brings together materials, stories, and traditions from different cultures to reflect the world as a place of constant movement. His works reveal how ordinary objects carry memories of the people and places they pass through, inviting viewers to reconsider ideas of identity, belonging, and cultural exchange.

Working across sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, video, and performance, Tayou often creates large-scale works in response to the places where they are shown. Combining handcrafted elements with locally sourced and found materials, he transforms familiar objects into immersive.
