Sarah De Vos
Amsterdam is a city full of reflections,...in this city, you see windows, mirrors, frames and reflections in the water of the canals everywhere.
Sarah De Vos (1985, Belgium) creates oil paintings on wooden panels that capture everyday gestures, objects, and fragments of nature with an almost photographic precision. She often finishes her paintings with a transparent layer of epoxy, creating reflective surfaces in which the viewer’s own image becomes part of the work. Music plays an important role in her practice: De Vos builds her series like conceptual albums, where each painting functions as an individual track while contributing to a larger rhythm and atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Gerhard Richter and Luc Tuymans, as well as musicians including Nick Cave and Sonic Youth, she explores how people form emotional attachments to images, memories, and objects. Her paintings focus on vulnerability, transformation, and the human desire to hold on to fleeting moments that give meaning to daily life.
