In her work, Malin Persson (1978, Sweden) investigates the possibilities of abstraction in landscape painting. How do organic and abstract shapes function next to each other? Can her expressions create something that doesn’t need to be reduced to an opposition like figurative or abstract? Dark colors feature heavily in her oeuvre but Persson’s black is never completely black; it is black mixed with other colors, layer upon layer, granting her paintings a mystical depth.
