Paul de Reus
Our inner self peaks through into reality all the time. You spend all day trying to keep to all these customs while little pieces of personality are constantly escaping.

The people in Paul de Reus’ (1963, the Netherlands) work are reflections, not of any single individual, but of a multitude, an entire society. These overlapping reflections held in the creator’s mind deform one another, mixing and merging into some queer median, with the resulting corporeal sculptures that we, the viewer, are shown as the final concentrate of our known everyday experience, with all its intimacy, loneliness, silliness, humor and imagination.
