Nadia Naveau

I like it when, at first, I’m not entirely sure how to relate to an image, of what its purpose is, even though I’m drawn to it. When an image works you can taste it, there’s a succulence to it …

Nadia Naveau (1975, Belgium) is a sculptor and, more than that, a composer— one with a brimming reservoir from which to draw. She experiments with shapes, materials, color, uses a wide range of contexts and molds it all together into a strange and idiosyncratic iconography, flawlessly combining old and new, the figurative and abstract, and humor and gravity too, even when the work seems dichotomous. They are impressive compositions, each with a story of their own.
