Katinka Lampe

Through the appropriation of the representation, by adding different layers, I’m expressing my feelings about the world around us. I do this figuratively, in this manner, inspired by the fact that the essence of human interaction is physical.
Katinka Lampe via Another Something, 2016

Katinka Lampe (1963, The Netherlands) paints children's portraits, depicting her young models with precision and a great sense of beauty. Searching for the image she has in mind, Lampe photographs her models in specific poses. These photographs, together with images from art history, magazines and newspapers form the basis for her paintings. The beauty of Lampe's work—a certain softness causing the eye to roam freely—creates a space in which new associations and connections may form. It is this space which Lampe uses to address phenomena such as extremism, racism and intolerance.
