Kathe Burkhart
In terms of my work, this kind of interdisciplinary practice, that is linked to performativity and intentionality has been a hallmark of my work from the beginning. I ask myself: What medium will suit this idea best? And go from there.

The Dutch-American interdisciplinary artist Kathe Burkhart (1958, United States) sees it as the task of art to denounce the prevailing social conflicts. Burkhart interprets this by focusing her work on female identity and the tension between the sexes. Her iconic Liz Taylor portraits are significant as to how women in the mass media are (still) stereotyped — while emancipation has brought about significant changes since the 1980s. Much of the work of Kathe Burkhart stems from existing images; she uses various media and also writes.
