Karin van Dam
Most of all . . . it’s about how everything is brought together into a whole. Only through that fragile connection does an artwork gain my hallmark.

Karin van Dam (1959, the Netherlands) is fascinated by the structures which compose the human environment—the patterns formed by buildings and streets, the unseen sewage system obscured by concrete, the unexpected birthed by repetition. In her installations this interest takes the shape of a wondrous metropolis full of floating figures for the viewer to wonder between, while the photographs held in the AkzoNobel collection, made during her time in China, show that same world reflected in reality.
