Kalliopi Lemos
Kalliopi Lemos (1951, Greece) is a London-based sculptor, painter and installation artist. Her site-specific installations focus on human rights, the issue of increasing global migration and female oppression. She made a name in the Netherlands with the six metre-high sculpture ‘The Plait’, which was unveiled in Rotterdam on International Women’s Day 2021. The sculpture is part of the International Sculptural Collection of Rotterdam and permanently installed on the Westersingel as a gift to the citizens and the tourists of the city. This largescale work of mild steel serves as a beacon of female power and sensuality.
In her drawings, collages, and sculptures organic, feminine shapes predominate. These shapes are carriers of fertility and resilience, like germs of plants and other curved calyxes from which life itself flows.
