Jeroen Kuster
I’ll travel to the jungle, in Colombia for instance, searching for biomes—rocky outcrops and tree roots—where my creations might live.

Jeroen Kuster (1971, the Netherlands) is mesmerized by animals, their anatomy and the structures it lays bare. In his work, creatures with a unique evolutionary history develop, each of them sprouting from his imagination and knowledge of anatomy. When making his work, he imagines how they would move, reproduce and play. Once they have come into being the creatures populating his world are granted a scientific name, based on the Systema Naturae by Carl Linnaeus, the founder of modern taxonomy. It is a world abundantly filled with varied animal species, each with their own beauty and story of creation.
