Janine van Oene
My work is still legible, space is suggested by minor elements.
Janine van Oene via Mister Motley, 2015
Each of Janine van Oene’s (1988, the Netherlands) paintings contains both great intellectual complexity and intuitive astuteness. As is the case with much good art, the former grows from the latter, not the other way around. The eye follows with ease and pleasure the colorful gestures composing the image, and yet their composition as a whole carries a subtle kind of conflict. The eye eventually trips and stumbles, as if the painter knows all too well the motion of a body in comfort, and can’t help but challenge it.
