Erik van Lieshout
Vincent van Gogh could reach complete euphoria, Vermeer perfect harmony. My images are very jarring. They have to be.

In Erik van Lieshout’s (1968, the Netherlands) multifaceted installations, man leads, but not in the guise of some high-minded individualism. His documentaries, collages, drawings and paintings focus on that part of humankind which can be seen through the cracks in our routines; cracks which Van Lieshout himself gleefully causes to appear with his disarming personality and unbridled curiosity. Through these unconventional methods he succeeds in bringing important social issues to the fore.
