Eliza Bordeaux
Eliza Bordeaux (1992, Netherlands) is a documentary art photographer who uses photography to gain insight into the social significance of cultural phenomena. She incorporates both facts and people's personal experiences into her work to visualize the impact of socioeconomic choices on personal lives. Her experimental photographic works are infused with symbolism and sharing discoveries. For the past 6 years, she has focused on visual research into the influence of the Dutch colonial past in Indonesia on the Indian community in the Netherlands.
L'atelier hétérotopie (2021-2023) explores the concept of heterotopia and its relation to the asylum center. The project is based on the six conditions for heterotopia outlined by Michel Foucault, which describe a unique site in society where relations with the 'normal' world are disorganized. Artist Bordeaux moved her studio to the asylum center in Rijswijk (NL) and set up a photo club there, using turmeric as the main theme. The process of creating turmeric prints is slow and unpredictable, symbolizing the waiting times of asylum seekers in the Netherlands.
