Elena Beelaerts
As I draw, I assuage my feelings of fragility as they relate to the arbitrary, all the while reveling in splendid disorder.

Elena Beelaerts (1971, the Netherlands) creates drawings on paper that will sometimes grow beyond the sheet, turning into spatial collages and installations. She uses a wild and cheerful range of found objects and materials such as plastic toys, toilet rolls, candy, glass, hair, color copies of nature photographs, newspapers and magazines, window dressing materials and animals both living and dead. Beelaert’s work often deals with disease and mortality and the fear thereof, but attempts to defang it through absurd associations and witty transformations.
