Bo Zhang

I seek to disrupt familiar narratives, create scenes that blur the boundaries between dream and reality, and spark curiosity, empathy, and a deeper awareness of our interconnected existence.

Bo Zhang (1993, China) is a visual artist whose practice centers on painting as a means to explore the overlooked, fleeting moments of everyday life. Her work investigates the boundaries between the familiar and the surreal, often challenging human-centered perspectives by drawing attention to the intricate relationships between people, animals, and the environment.

As a life long birdkeeper. Zhang employs recurring bird motifs as symbols of vitality, intelligence, and coexistence with humans. By experimenting with color combinations inspired by animal vision, Zhang explores a view which isn’t centered on human experience. She paints not just what is there, but what might be felt or imagined just under the surface. The result is a work that invites slow looking and quiet attention, where meaning comes through in tone, gesture, and detail.
