Aukje Koks

One day I found poetry or recognition in these objects and motifs, and I was no longer able to let that recognition or association go.
Aukje Koks via Ways of Being, 2014

In her work, Aukje Koks (1977, Netherlands) suggest an alternate reality painfully close to an illusion. Koks is a painter, but never stops questioning the medium; she might define a curtain as a painting, or a piece of wood as a brush stroke. “What is a painting and where does it stop?”
The presence of transformation is important to her work. Combining the immaterial and the material, the visible and the invisible, Koks grasps the very instance of experience itself.
