In loving memory of Kees van Lede (1942-2020)

It is with great sadness that we inform you that the founder of the AkzoNobel Art Foundation Kees van Lede passed away. Kees was more than a special chairman, civilized, liberal, erudite and with a broad social, political and cultural perspective. The great initiator of the AkzoNobel Art Foundation is no longer with us, but we will continue to build on the foundations that have been laid by Kees for our collection, with his vision and vitality.

“If something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well! Be ambitious, don’t become blinded by the fancies of time but keep looking towards the long-term. Less is not what we were going for and we made sure our contacts were aware; not a nine day’s wonder but builder instead, of a serious collection, worthy of the name AkzoNobel".

“I recall many purchases. With them came a whole set of perspectives, emotions and conversations. It is how the collection remains dynamic, the viewer curious, and you yourself open to new impulses".

Kees, our thanks are endless, you will live on forever in our collection.
