An artificial neo-classical sculpture enveloped in a cascade of bright yellow resin, hardened in mid-drip, stands proudly on a modern day variant of a plinth. For Nick van Woert (1979, United States) the repurposed synthetic classical sculpture used in ‘Untitled’ is exemplary of the idea that the world we live in is as good as the materials we’ve used to build it. With this work, Van Woert addresses the frightening prospect that we might render the earth uninhabitable if we continue to substitute monolithic materials - such as wood, stone and metal - for synthetic ones.
