The Sky River, 2015

‘The Sky River’ and ‘A Piece of the Sky’ by Amsterdam-based artist Sam Salehi Samiee (1988, Iran) are a celebration of nature’s elusive beauty. They also represent Samiee’s ongoing investigations into the ever-changing, fragmentary relationship between things – in this case the sky, a river and the reflection of the sky in the river. Inspired one day by the play of summer light on a canal outside his studio, Samiee reflected upon how to reproduce and capture a scene of such transient and abstract beauty. A scene that seemed as it were, “to be running away before his eyes.” The result: a synthesis of color, sky, water and the complex play of light on water. A tangible melding of fleeting phenomena to create a river that is sky and a piece of the sky you can take with you.
