Text-based works figure prominently in the practice of Dutch-Iranian artist Navid Nuur (1976, Iran). Commonly written in English in a font developed by the artist, Nuur’s work is interlinked with issues of identity: a childhood learning Farsi, his subsequent struggle to master the Roman alphabet, graffiti-artist beginnings, and his lifelong struggle with dyslexia. Nuur calls his works ‘interimodules,’ describing them as modules of thought that feed off each other. With them, says Nuur, “I try to understand and capture the universal quality of words as an abstract language that connects us all.”
