For a decade, Jacqueline Hassink (1966, the Netherlands) worked on the series ‘View, Kyoto’, taking thousands of photographs of traditional Japanese Buddhist temple gardens in and around Kyoto. The cherry blossoms of Haradini-in form part thereof. Hassink’s work reflects Japanese aesthetics, which see cultivated temple gardens as representations of paradise. Her works invite us to reconsider our relationship to nature, reminding us of its spiritual and healing powers in an increasingly urbanized and digitalized world.
