Gezicht op de Bosporus, 2021
thread on cotton, wood
28 × 34 cm
Titia Frieling (1944, Netherlands) created a refined embroidery inspired by the monumental mural her son, Gijs Frieling, painted at the AkzoNobel Art Space in 2021. Frieling’s embroidery serves as a lasting memory of this mural, a tribute carefully and lovingly created by hand, stitch by stitch. In the foreground, we see a fairytale-like shore of the Bosphorus with graceful plants and flowers. Within this scene, a charming deer grazes and a procession of turtles carries a burning candle on their shells. On the left and right, dark groups of trees form curtains, like those of a stage.
