Veron Urdarianu
On a level surface, one can give emphasis to something, whereas working in three dimensions that is almost impossible. The opposite is true, too. With this art, I enable a dialogue to develop between architectural sculptures and paintings. In both, ‘the image’ is reshaped into an imaginary world.

Veron Urdarianu (1951, Romania) is a master of suggestion. He’ll often use existing images, placing them in a new context. Simple motifs such as copulating dogs, a fallen jockey or a Napoleonic soldier are filled with insinuated significance. His use of perspective and sallow color gradients extricates the image from the here and now, as if they’ve ‘fallen out of time’. The melancholy atmosphere Urdarianu’s paintings tend to exude is counteracted by a whiff of humor and the absurd. He proceeds cautiously, exploring the subtlety of dimmed tones as to not disturb his story’s mystery.
