Tom van Veen

The paintings present themselves digitally as snapshots, specifically because of their relationship to transnational youth culture. But I find the paint important, the brushstroke, the surface and believe that when seen in real life they give an experience of delay inherent in painting (you see and feel the time it took to create the image).

Tom van Veen (1994) creates large oil paintings with subjects related to contemporary transnational youth culture. His works simulate certain assumptions within which nuances or even completely new images can arise. He finds the process of painting important and therefore takes his time. The result is almost photographic portraits.
