Simon Patterson
Work is a controlling mechanism for me; order in the work can create order in the world even if it’s challenging a wider order.

Coming to prominence in the 1990s, Simon Patterson’s (1967, UK) approach to art was then, as it is now, wonderfully insidious. Information, often so neatly and familiarly presented in orderly diagrams implying knowledge and control, is subtly undermined and disjointed. With every piece, Patterson smilingly taps both the individual moving through daily life, and the society in which he lives on its busy, busy shoulder.
