Nicolas Dings

I strive for poetry in three dimensions.
Nicolas Dings via Vereniging Oud Utrecht, 2015

The sculptures by Nicolas Dings (1953, the Netherlands) are imbued with meaning. The artist is fascinated by the visual power of objects and their cultural and historical background.

Using materials as diverse as bronze, ceramics, wood, and textiles as well as in drawings and paintings, he connects the material and the symbolic, the physical and the spiritual in contemporary ways. In doing so, he creates his own, often humorous, universe with plenty of room for associations. Dings, the creator of monumental sculptures found in various places in the Netherlands, is also the artistic genius behind the Spinoza monument in Amsterdam, commissioned by the city's mayor.
