Marijn Akkermans

That which resonates in my head, I want to use while working on a drawing, because then, in addition to my first ideas, new possibilities arise. In this way ideas and meanings can shift.

Marijn Akkermans (1975, the Netherlands) is known for his drawn portraits in pencil, ink and gouache on paper. He works intuitively on several drawings at once, leaving room within the working process to create cross-connections. Without working from concrete themes, all works contain an overarching interest in human contradictions such as masculinity / femininity, youth / old age and reality / imagination. Akkermans gets his inspiration from Hollywood films and comics, in which strong opposites and magnified characters are also brought to stage to tell a story.
