Jim Harris

I think the job of a painter or an artist is to deepen the mystery of our surroundings, to notice things and respond to them.

Elements from many schools combine in Jim Harris’s (1968, UK) paintings, but that which is brought together—be it the early modernists or the American abstract expressionists—always has its core in common. Harris often works in extended series, and herein the aforementioned core is revealed:  a dedication to the poetry our attention can discover in minute variations. We encounter it in his subject, painted from a different angle or in a different light each time, but most of all we find it in the lively dialogue between the painter and his paint in all its variability, to which we too are invited.
