Glenn Sorensen

Opposites appeal to me, particularly grotesque versus beauty, to paint something that is grotesque, horrible, but to do it so beautifully it is irresistible to look at.

Glenn Sorensen (1968, Australia) is known for his intimate, small-scale paintings of flowers, domestic objects and people from his own life. He depicts his subjects with varying degrees of realism, but his use of bright colors, the composition and the atmosphere his work exudes remain constant. Some paintings seem to show some part of a dark pond with luminous flowers, others show people that seem to be frozen in the moment. No matter what the subject, Sorensen’s paintings are always saturated with a sense of unease and loneliness.
