Douglas Peréz Castro
Humour should be like a ‘whip with jingle bells’—this is the key to all of my practice.
Douglas Pérez Castro via Breeze Little Gallery, The Fifth World, 2015
It is a raucous body of work, that Douglas Pérez Castro (1972, Cuba) has created; raucous, but not random, because perceptible through all the bustle and hum of his paintings, is a smiling mind using many perspectives at once. With its display of curiosity, virtuosity, moral complexity and breadth of knowledge, it might—as is necessarily true for all humor of any worth—even be called highly intellectual; highly intellectual, and deeply human.
